HCKC PRE-TECH SAFETY TECH CHECKLIST

Note: This list is not "all-inclusive" and should be used only as a guide to perform pre-race safety tech at HCKC races.  Please refer to the current IKF Competition Regulations and Technical Manual for more detailed information
      
          
Axle Nuts/Wheel Hubs: Front and rear must be safety wired, cotter keyed, pinned, snap ringed or barry clipped.
       
          
Ballast: Ballast weight must be securely bolted and cotter keyed or safety wired to the kart with a minimum 1/4" through bolt. Any lead shot or loose material used as ballast must be mechanically sealed by use of a bolting device.  Tape, hose clamps, ty-wraps or fasteners other than bolts are not permitted for attaching ballast weights. ·        

          
Throttle: Karts must be equipped with a foot-operated throttle incorporating a return spring that closes the throttle when the pedal is released.·       

          
Brakes: All brake caliper bolts, master cylinder bolts and master cylinder roll pin must be cotter pinned or safety wired.  All bolts that hold non-captive brake pads shall be safety wired so that the bolt cannot unscrew, allowing the brake pads to fall out.
       
          
Steering: All steering assembly bolts and nuts, including spindles, steering hub and kingpins, shall be cotter pinned or safety wired.      

          
Fuel Lines: Must be wire tied at all connections.·        

          
Fuel Catch Can: An external fuel catch can must be used, unless the fuel tank is an integral part of the engine.·        

          
Crankcase Overflow Can: Required on all 4-cycle karts.·        
           Third Bearing Support: Required on all 2-cycle engines using an engine-mounted clutch.  At least one bolt must be safety wired. ·        
 
           
Chain/Bolt Guard: Karts shall be equipped with an adequate chain/belt guard to eliminate the possibility of personal injury.        

           
Number Panels: Front, rear and both sides.  Numbers should be plain black on a white background.  (See IKF Manual for details on sizes, etc.)Note: not a tech item.      

           
Bumpers/Nerf Bars: Front bumper no lower that 7 3/4" from the ground. Rear bumper no higher than 7 1/2" above the ground. Additional lower bar at bottom of rear bumper also required.  Nerf bars minimum 24" long (19" on "Cadet" karts.)  3/4" minimum diameter tubing on all bumpers and nerf bars.  (See IKF Manual for additional details.)        

          
Protective Clothing/Safety Apparel: Snell 2000 helmets w/face shield, gloves, helmet support, jackets in leather, heavyweight vinyl or abrasion resistant nylon, full-length pants and high-top shoes required.  CIK approved driving suits permitted. Suits of Nomex-only material are not permitted.
Attention: Important Chest Protector Information for 2006
Section 105.6.3.6 of the 2006 IKF Tech Manual: As of March 1, 2006, all drivers in all Kid Kart, Junior 1, Rookie, and Cadet classes in all Divisions, are required to present for pre race tech inspection, a chest protection device with a Section 20.1 SFI Certification.
This device must be worn whenever such drivers are on track in their kart. The Grid personnel are empowered to prevent a driver from entering the track without this device, just as they would a driver without a neck collar or gloves.
